Colnago Y1RS: A 1x Red XPLR Build

SRAM Red XPLR 1x, ENVE SES 6.7, and a whole lot of aero.

Colnago, a brand that needs no introduction, has quickly become a staple offering at Sundays. Bikes like this deserve a build as unique as their owners. This Y1RS is no exception, featuring a full complement of the fastest components available.

With the rise of 1x drivetrains, many people are curious about 1x road setups. We've been building 1x road bikes for quite a long time. They've historically been great for lightweight and simplicity, but they've always had a compromise with gearing: choose high range or low range. With SRAM's newest XPLR groupset there are fewer compromises than ever. You're seeing the pros ride this sort of setup, and it's good for us "average" riders too.

This particular Y1RS is built with SRAM's newest Red XPLR drivetrain mentioned above. The 10-46 cassette gives an incredible range for both climbing and straight-line speed. You won't run out of gears going up the canyons here, or down them. While the "add another cog" arms race can seem frivolous, this is an application where we really see a lot of benefit: the steps between gears are nearly as fine as 2x with small cassettes.

A Wolf Tooth 48t 1x Aero chainring gives the right balance of gearing and meshes with the Y1RS's aero styling.

Enve's SES 6.7 wheels might be UCI illegal due to depth, but they're the perfect match for a bike focused on speed without compromising weight or stability.

Colnago Y1RS cockpit with white bar tape and the Colnago Clubs head badge

Colnago does a great job kitting this frameset out: aero-matched bottle cages, styled bolts and covers featuring the classic Clubs logo, and lots of paint details that need to be seen to be appreciated. We felt white bar tape was only fitting for such a clean bike.
