You may notice this build isn't quite finished. The saddle is set way too high and the bars haven't been taped yet. Skipping bar tape for aero gains seems to be en vogue right now, but that's not what we're doing here.
This rider came in for a pre-fit and we roughed in her position. The final fitting and all the small adjustments happen at pickup. The seatpost will get cut down, the saddle angle dialed in, and the hood position reworked based on her fit on this bike. Once the hoods are just right, we wrap the bars.
This matters on every bike, and even more now that top-end aero bikes are rethinking the rules and changing how we look at rider position. Sizing on many modern bikes can be a lot to take in. There are virtual seat tube angles and ever-changing cockpits to contend with, and some of the latest handlebar and shifter combinations add as much as 20mm of reach. That makes fit a more important piece of the puzzle than ever.
The Y1RS is an incredible bike. It isn't hard to fit, though it does take a new understanding of how these bikes are sized. As we've always known, rider position is the most important factor in speed on a bike, and Colnago themselves said as much when discussing the design of the Y1RS. We're excited to have options like this available, and to make them fit you perfectly.
This frameset is the Y1RS Dark Series, the lightest of the Y1RS paint schemes. It's a matte clear coat over raw carbon, which gives it a subtle but distinct look.
ENVE's SES 6.7 wheels may not be UCI compliant, but they are certainly fast. They're much tamer to ride than a 67mm rear rim depth would suggest: they descend with ease and stay predictable in crosswinds.
Shimano is always a predictable and reliable choice. One thing many riders are weighing right now is reach and hood shape. The rider we built this bike for needed something that matched her stature, and Shimano's Di2 hoods are a bit more compact than others, which gives her the right reach. As we covered above, fit is especially important with integrated handlebars and this new wave of bike designs.
Vittoria's Corsa N.EXT tires are a very popular pick for us. They have about 95% of the supple ride feel of a Corsa Pro, but they're a bit more robust. That ride feel is important when pairing a relatively stiff frame with deep, stiff wheels. A little compliance and comfort goes a long way, especially for smaller and lighter riders. The Corsa N.EXT gets us the grip, the comfort, and just enough durability for rough roads.
If a Y1RS or one of the other new aero bikes is on your list, come see us. We'll build it around your riding and dial in the fit before it leaves the shop.
